Wir verließen Budweis gegen 9:20 Uhr und fuhren gen Österreich und Slowenien. Es schüttete in Strömen. der verlassene Alpengrenzübergang veranlasste zum Staunen, es folgten vier nervige Stunden durch Bella Austria, ehe es hieß: Willkommen im Balkan.

2018 waren wir schon mal in Slowenien, für Maribor oder auch Marburg an der Drau, blieb keine Zeit.

Dieses Mal hatten wir die Stadt an der Drau bewusst gewählt, leider ließ der Wettergott zu wünschen übrig und so blieb es beim Powersightseeing zw. hässlichen Schauern mit starkem Regen.

Die Stadt Maribor ist die zweitgrößte Stadt in Slowenien und nahm den Namen erst 1830, mit zunehmemder Identitätsfindung der Slowenen an. Vorher war der Name Marburg gebräuchlicher, auch hier liegt eine lange Geschichte von Heiliges Römisches Reich Deutscher Nationen, Österreich, KuK, Slowenien, Deutsches Reich, Jugoslawien und Unabhängigkeit zugrunde.

Trotz slowenischer Namensgebung blieb der offizielle Name dennoch weiterhin Marburg und erst das Ende des ersten Weltkriegs besiegelte des Schicksal des deutschen Namens. Heute leben 118.000 Menschen in der Stadt, 2000 war Maribor Hauptstadt der Alpenregion.

Wir machten unsere ersten Erfahrungen mit der Stadt bereits bei der Anfahrt zum Hotel, welches mitten in der Alstadt, in einer FUSSGÄNGERZONE liegt. Wir erfreuten und am Pollercode, einmal mit Erlaubnis dort fahren, wo Nieman fahren darf.

Ansonsten B&B Orel, quadratisch, praktisch gut.

Nach einem kurzen Boxenstop, kritischer Beobachtung des Wetter, bewaffnet mit Regenschirm und Regenjacke gings los….zunächst das Schloss, mitten in der Altatadt.

Block auf das Viertel Lent, direkt an der Drau.

Über die Fussgängerbrücke gingen wir wieder zurück in die Innenstadt und wurden patschenass.

Als wir endlich in einem Café saßen, klarte es wieder auf….und das lag nicht nur am dem leckeren Kuchen.

Wir reservierten einen Tisch in einer Instituion der Stadt:


Den späten Nachmittag trockneten wir durch und ließen uns um 18:30 Uhr vom Baščaršija überraschen:

Wir ließen Maribor, Marienburg sein…die älteste Weinrebe wird ohne uns älter und auch einen Blick in Dom und Basilika verkniffen wir uns.

Als Stop auf Durchreise ist Marinor wärmstens zu empfehlen, Slowenien enttäuscht nie, siehe auch 2018.
