Puppiges Nest, ich war sofort verliebt. Bereits im Vorfeld verkündeten meine Freundin Annegret als auch der allwissende Reiseführer, dass Grenadas Haupstadt die wohl interessanteste der gesamten Reise sein würde. Der frühe Morgen ließ auf jeden Fall schon mal Großes erahnen.

Wir aßen im Weite Welt Restaurant und standen überpünktlich zu unserem Ausflug bereit. Und was hatten wir für ein großes, großes Glück. Im Minibus, zu 16. ging es mit Johanna über die Insel. Johanna wohnt seit 37 Jahren auf der Insel, sie erzählte aus ihrem Leben, der Insel und war von Anfang an sympathisch.

Unser erstes Ziel war das Fort Frederick mit grandiosem Blick auf die Stadt und unser Schiff. Vorher versuchte ich noch ein paar Bilder aus der Stadt “aufzuschnappen“:

Und hier kommt das fort Frederick, welches seine Kanonen übrigens ins Landesinnere ausgerichtet hatte….zu viele Angriffe der indigenen Stämme.

Danach fuhren wir zu den Concord Wasserfällen, die überraschend nett waren. Um uns herum wuchsen Mangos, Kakao, Muskat, Taro, Bananen, Brotbäums etc.etc…..Grenada der Garten Eden.

Wir kauften Muskat und genossen die Fahrt an der wilden Atlantikküste. Die Dörfer waren hübsch, die Insel ein wildes Paradies

Mittags kehrten wir auf der Belmont Estate ein, genossen ein tolles karibisches Essen und staunten über den Regen, der auf uns niederprasselte.

Weiter ging es über die Insel und mit der bewegenden Lebensgeschichte von Johanna. 1985 als junge Frau nach Grenada, verliebt in einen Rastafari, der noch mit mit weiteren Frauen mehrere Kinder in die Welt gesetzt hatte. Dieser verstarb auf dem Meer, weil das Fischerboot kenterte. Johanna schlug sich mit Irena, ihrer Tochter, durch. Gründete eine Reiseagentur, verlor das erste Mal alles im Hurrican 2004 und dann nochmals in der Pandemie…alles an der Frau berührte uns. Sie vermietet mittlerweile zwei Apartments, wir ließen uns Kontaktdaten geben. Mal schauen, evtl. verschlagt es uns mal wieder in die Ecke.

Unser nächstes Ziel war der alte Flughäfen Pearls ( intl. Airport mit den Wracks einer Cubana und Aeroflot. Sie stammen aus der Zeit, als die USA versuchte das kommunistische Regime der Insel zu stürzen. Mittlerweile stehen Häuser am Rande der Startbahn, die Natur holt sich den Flughafen zurück. der Flugbetrieb ist seit 1984 eingestellt.

Leider regnete  es sich am Grand Etang so richtig ein, der Blick auf den Teich ziemlich unspektakulär.

Auf dem Rückweg bekamen wir nochmals einen schönen Blick auf St. George und der Perla.

Um 16:00 Uhr waren wir wieder am Schiff. Wir verabschiedeten uns herzlich von Johanna und versuchten in der Aida Lounge, bewaffnet mit nem rośe Chandon, etwas für Sint Maarten zu reißen. Am Ende hatten wir ne Doppeldeckertour, die auch den Maho Beach mitnimmt, sparen 20 Euro pro Person und sofern wir individuell rauskommen,haben wir noch den kompletten Nachmittag.

Auf der Kabine lagen die obligatorischen Tests, die nach der Hälfte der Tour verpflichtend sind. Sofern positiv gehts auf Barbados in Quarantäne…..unsere Tests waren Gott sei Dank negativ.

Die goldene Abendsonne setzte St. George so richtig in Szene, wir waren von der Insel total begeistert; bislang das Highlight der Reise.

Um 19:30 Uhr ging es ins East, dort kapierte auch mein lieber Mann das Prinzip und liebt die Bude nun umso mehr.

Wir vergammelten dem Abend auf dem Zimmer, waren faul und geschafft.
